I do think it's outrageous. I don't really approve of most zoos. They're cruel enough. When you get some hicks who have no clue what they're doing, only bad things can happen.
I saw a documentary on exotic animals and there was a mentally ill dude who bought two tigers and was keeping them in a shipping crate.

The Elephant in the Room.
It was awful. Some guy living in a beat up trailer in rural Ohio who could BARELY take care of himself and he's trying to raise two lions. Can you imagine how much freaking meat two lions eat on a daily basis?

That was it. I didn't remember the exact details obviously but it stood out. That and a trip to the Chicago aquarium really made me regret how so many animals are treated poorly. The conditions there were awful and I saw abuse going on I told the workers and they didn't do a damn thing.

They said they went to one farm and they had seven tigers and two leopards living in one horse trailer. They fed them roadkill.
Most of these animals are like 6-7th generation domestic too. They can't go back to the wild. Though they should at least get a decent place to live and not a dog kennel.

Because deep down people realize caged animals will one day be re only ones left.
Because asshats like the loser at the Tiger Stop outside BR fight them in court.
Because there's just something worse about killing one of a dwindling number of wild animals.

I honestly don't understand your thought process. The dentist wasn't hunting a predator or for food. He was hunting for the shits and giggles. There's a big difference.
I don't think his life should be ruined. There should be consequences though for his thoughtless and illegal actions.
