So Jack, in my previous example of gentrification pushing blacks out of their own neighborhoods. Do you think it's racist for whites to move into black neighborhoods, clean it up, and force those same blacks out because the cost of living for the area rises?

Definitely not. The less fortunate would then be able to refinance their mortgage and benefit from the increase in property value and finally be able recover from the bad hand they were dealt and climb the ladder.

the problem is that the "less fortunate" do not own houses, the rent/lease, and when property value goes up, rent/lease goes up and forces them out

White flight isn't when a black family moves down the street and racist white people decide to have a meeting and all move at the same time. Properties get older, value decreases, newer amenities pop up in suburbs. People with the financial ability to follow what's new and nice go with it. Leaving the run down remains behind which are now valued a lot less and then inhabited by those that can afford, which due to the state of certain minority groups, tends to create the same result, poor black neighborhoods.

Look at Tigerland. On a small scale, it's exactly what white flight is. Those apartments got old, and students with money left for newer. Landlords had to drop rent to get tenants, and it has turned into a ghetto. Crime tends to follow when poorer people move in and it exacerbates the problem.

White flight happens before any place becomes "black", so how can it be racist.

I just dont understand why white people don't want to move into any of the nice clean black neighborhoods that are so ubiquitous.

the whole problem with "white flight is racist" scenario is that the exact opposite is happening right now and its still racist

What makes them more fortunate? Did they inherit the world or did they earn their keep? And just an FYI, its nobodies responsibility but ones self to improve their own area. The biggest thing a ghetto could do to help its self is to shun the assholes who bring down its value and appearance. Why does personal responsibility escape you?

And why is there not people moving into the hood and building nice houses on cheaper land instead of gated communities?

So people are racist if they don't want to live in high crime areas, and have to deal with unsafe living conditions?

Spike Lee disagrees.

I mean, they just move in the neighborhood. You just can’t come in the neighborhood. I’m for democracy and letting everybody live but you gotta have some respect. You can’t just come in when people have a culture that’s been laid down for generations and you come in and now shite gotta change because you’re here? Get the frick outta here. Can’t do that!
And then! [to audience member] Whoa whoa whoa. And then! So you’re talking about the people’s property change? But what about the people who are renting? They can’t afford it anymore! You can’t afford it.

So now you will resort to cyber bullying and verbal lashing. Your attacks of me spew entitlement and make me feel inferior. I am literally getting sick to my stomach right now that a human being can treat another being like this.

So you lack the basic concept of financing, realty and economics. That's clear. Those "less fortunate" people would not be able to afford their "mortgage" if their property value went up. They don't just give you free money on a refinance.
