The definition of the word is “of great size” or “causing terror”

Yet we almost always use it to exclaim joy about something. Why?

"of great size" + "a feeling of great pleasure and happiness" = "Terrific"

OP found the young man's penis to be terrific.

Why, when we hear smoking hot music, do we say "That's cool"?

Why, when we think something's good, do we say "That's badass?"

A language's capacity for generating new idioms is only limited by its speakers' creativity.

I get irked when people use the word antisocial when they mean asocial.
