This was/is 100% the motive. They obviously won't come out and say that, but it works in their favor to have Catholics create more Catholics.

Genesis (1:28) where it says "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it."

Yeah, but this was said to Adam and Eve when there weren't any other humans, so be fruitful and multiply applies perfectly to them in context.

Genesis 38:3-10

One of the verses in the bible current protestants gloss over so not to expose their hypocrisy...

ETA: minor restatement to qualify that protestants before the 1930's also thought birth control was a sin. Anglicans I believe were the first to accept birth control.

They guide those couples to adopt and/or keep trying.

Again the sin isn't the creation of life with in vitro. If every embryo created in the process was brought to term they'd celebrate it. But that's not the case.

Family planning blocks you from having kids the same way a pill does. I brought this up to a priest at our prewedding retreat and he couldn't give me an answer as to how those were different other than it was "natural" and the pill was pharmaceutical.

I argued that sins are committed in the heart. Both avenues intentionally block the egg from being fertilized. He had no answer. I've still never heard any decent answer to my argument.

This is a great point.

I know plenty of good Catholics who don't allow the Catholic Church to control every aspect of their lives.

I mean- we now have a sitting Pope who has declared you can't be a Christian if you own a gun.(He actually said if we really want peace, we should ban ALL WEAPONS). Yeah, ok.

I was raised a Catholic, myself. Here's MY response to the ex-South American bouncer turned Pope:

There are some very deep ideas regarding this that are often difficult to convey, and thus they are often misunderstood by many, and/or used by other degenerate religions.
what degenerate religions are you referring to?

Didn’t a married couple go to the Vatican and in an authorized meeting tell the cardinals they had sex seven times a day for fun.

Didn’t the catholic parish in Paris hundreds of years ago get the okay to condone prostitution.

Of course you can find funny facts about all religions.

That's not fun. 7 times a day is past the point of diminishing returns.

Because only the creator can create. If he chooses to bring a soul into existence, and you choose to interfere, you got some shite to deal with later

So why would birth control be discouraged? Do they just want people to have a lot of kids to keep the population of whatever religion... up?

What is worse: birth control being a “sin” or an adult giving a frick what is considered a “sin” or not?

This is correct. More Catholics going to church means more money in the collection basket. It’s all about the money.
All these “rules” are written by and enforced by a bunch of old hard legs that for the most part have never had sex with a woman. Take that for what it’s worth.
BTW I was raised Catholic, Altar Boy for 10 years and seminarian for 4.
Haven’t been to church in decades, not even for Easter or Christmas.

Because Catholics see sex as a means for having kids. If you don't want kids, you shouldn't be having sex. Celibacy or kids- take your pick...sinner.

Same reason they are pro immigration. Middle class Americans don't buy the bullshite anymore, so they're having to import from overseas where people are still gullible.

I would think that if He is all-knowing, He wouldn't assign a soul to folks who were using birth control.
