Wife is originally British, now American and she says vacation. She does refer to Holliday for her family still over there, but not for us. The university thing is true as well, but she goes to college.

I knew a dude who said his kid's Pearland soccer team won 2 - nil. He was a douche on other levels too.

I've observed this trend, mostly among Reddit weenies. The trend toward "university" is further along than "holiday."
Related complaint: vowel sounds in English are simplifying and becoming more similar to Spanish.
Examples: the first syllable of "glaucoma" seems to rhyme with "how" now, just like it does in Spanish. Another one: "dollars" is pronounced with a long O... again, like Spanish.
I think this change is perceived as bringing English phonology closer to other languages. Over time, it will make it harder to identify / favor native speakers.
