Maybe it's gauche. Maybe there's some international law or regulation that prevents outright bribery, but the cost of convincing every citizen of Greenland to vote for their independence and then become a protectorate of the US is negligible.

66000 residents. Offer them all 250k, 500k, a million usd apiece once Greenland becomes a protectorate and the max cost is less than we've given to Ukraine for nothing.

I don't get it. Why all this negotiating? With fricking Denmark? Just bribe them.

Don't care about party.

But if the goal is to acquire Greenland all this talk seems counterproductive for an Island with 66k people. Pay them off. Most will move off the frozen tundra with millions to spend, move the military, miners and drillers in there and profit.

They have to want to sell to the US and they don’t.

Denmark or Greenland? Denmark doesn't technically own Greenland.

Spoken like a true dimocrat. Just add another Trillion or two to the ledger! Inflation roars! We would gain access to our defensive needs, yet any ROI from natural resources would be years away.

A well is deep; your thoughts aren't.

Denmark doesn’t. The population supports independence and likely US intervention from recent polling iirc

The United States interest in Greenland isn't anything new, it's been eyed since the 1950s

The average Greenlander probably lives a pretty laid back life not feeling the need to be protected from anyone. Well that was the case until recently. Now they most likely feel under attack from the country tying to take them over.

It's just Trump's negotiating style. Ask for the Sun and settle for the Moon. He probably just wants to build more U. S. military bases there.

Oh and Poli board

It wouldn't be because of the Pituffik Space Base that was built in 1943, would it?

There’s logical reasons for Denmark to give up Greenland. But yeah, they’re never willingly going to give in to Trump.

otherwise.

Is it really political though. It was just a thought when I saw the actual population numbers. We could literally bribe every person (including children) with life changing money to vote our way and pay off the minimal debt owed to Denmark and be done. But observances must be made and we have to do this dance. Alaska and Louisiana werw easier... didn't even have congressional approval for those.
