re: Why doesn’t our society ever talk about how few Korean War vets are left?

My dad and his twin brother joined the national guard when they turned 17 and were still in high school and right after they got mobilized into the army when the war broke out. They never had to go over there, although he said his unit was packed and ready one time but got cancelled at the last minuet.
My grandfather made them promise him that whatever happened, they would not let the North Koreans take them prisoner. They were identical and you could hardly tell them apart. They have been gone a few years now and I really miss them. My uncle came into this world 10 minuets before my dad, and left this world 10 months before my dad.

My FIL who passed in 13 got his PH at pork chop hill. An uncle who was in intelligence and passed in 23 was also present at that battle. Miss them both.

My PawPaw was in the Korean War. He passed almost 10 years ago. Really wish I asked him more about his time over there.
What I've found is most war time vets really don't talk much about their time, especially if in combat. Guess it just brings up too many painful memories for them watching their friends getting maimed and killed.

You arent wrong. I do know this. War is war is war. War is hell.
My grand dad literally left Korea in and went to Vietnam as an advisor.
May God bless them all.

It's a flat out travesty Korea isn't taught more in schools.
Texas just dropped studying the battles of Lexington and Concord to make room for Oprah. My AP US history class 30 years ago gave it a paragraph, I think. I still think the monument in DC is one of the best war memorials in town.
There's a good chunk of Hackworth's "About Face" that is about how Korea shaped Hack as a leader. Jocko Podcast on "Perspective from A Diary of The Korean War." Gnarly shite.

I’ve often heard it pronounced Kore-Ree-Er by older generations.
That's an acceptable pronunciation for old timers as well.

The Korean War Channel Trailer
Not sure how familiar you are with Indy Neidell but his Time Ghost channel on YouTube is doing a week by week breakdown on the Korean War. They previously covered WW1 & WW2 in a similar format & I thought they did a good job.
