The feeling you get strolling through the quarter and downtown on a 65-degree day cannot be manufactured.

It really is one of the most beautiful and unique cities in the country. It should be better than what it is.

Plenty of other beautiful cities have issues. San Francisco has bums everywhere. New York smells. Boston and Philly are racist and trashy.

I think what makes it famous is also its downfall. New Orleans is known as just being one giant party. But, when it comes to things that aren't party related, it can't seem to "grow up." Basically the kid in college who is a great time at parties but can't keep up the grades to stay in school.

Real estate market is not one of NOLA’s problems

It could still be those things and not be a crime ridden city with bad schools, infrastructure, etc. Unfortunately to accomplish this you'd have to remove a large segment of the population which obviously isn't happening.

There are middle and upper middle class all over the area. Lakeview, Midcity, Uptown...

Just to expound on this, Lakeview is bigger than a lot of people realize that don't live in Nola. Add in Lakeshore and Lake Vista, and its a pretty damn big area.

You mean like the blocks and blocks and blocks of new houses being built uptown and midcity and sell for around 300k? Is that what you mean?

You act like the housing market isn't market driven and people are just deciding to sell their houses for more. The housing is that expensive because people are paying it.

NOLA obviously has social problems but i refuse to believe turning the city into yet another bland cookie cutter corporate playground is the only answer.

You can have both.

And that's what makes no sense to me in terms of why NOLA is not a premier destination. Leadership failed the city for decades.

Not letting criminals roam the street in broad daylight and making public school a viable option doesn't really equate to becoming cookie cutter. It really is insane that not even the more affluent suburbs have a public school you can send your kid to.

I don't think anyone suggested turning it into a cookie cutter heaven.

Looking at home prices down there is ridiculous. Their home prices are as if they think New Orleans is Boston or something. No wonder the town has no tax base and can’t attract people.

Real estate is an investors game, which has driven up prices for homeowners.

A house really isn't a home anymore, it's an investment. Sadly.
