Probably because hot weather doesn't render streets undrivable and require machines to make them safe.

Same reason NY closed down for few days during 92 degree heat wave. Can't handle it.

Yea, that doesn't happen. 90s are pretty regular in NY in the summer actually

Because DOTD is not prepared for snow or ice covered roads.

Usually don't see plows or road treatment until we get 2-3" at least. Even their it's the main road. But, people have vehicles and tires that can handle it.

Anywhere you live, it just takes one squirrelly driver to block a highway. First snow of the year we have them here too

New York and New England flooded a good bit

Maybe they should have better pump stations and drainage.

And you realize the population of the area "superstorm Sandy" hit was MUCH higher than the population of where hurricanes normally hit. No shite they will have more deaths.

No shite? Apparently they don't have great drainage either from it repeatedly flooding when I lived there.

Kind of the point

So a storm hits a huge population center and the reason people died was because a lot of people live there?
It couldn't be that maybe the storm was pretty powerful?

How did those pumps do in New Orleans last August?

Because it usually melts and then the colder nights freeze it to ice...making us in danger. Snow isn't horrible further north because it remains snow
