As someone who has lived in BR my whole life, I can 100% say Katrina ruined BR. I’m not sure where you’re from or how long you actually lived in BR but real estate prices skyrocketed, traffic issues, which were just starting on non interstate roads, quadrupled overnight, and violent crime became more common place throughout the parish versus a few very select areas.
I lived it and I know what happened. Katrina screwed Baton Rouge big time.

At least it hasn't become Chamblee or Norcross yet!

i was in BR 7 years. 4 prior to Katrina and 3 after
traffic blew up for about a month and leveled off back to normal in a few months. it really was terrible the first few days
most of your issues were from development, not katrina. the reason why there were issues in new areas (Sharlo/Tigerland being the easiest example) is b/c new development took the demand away from the run-down college areas that BR had refused to invest in for multiple decades.

I know the history and I'm well aware.
Be careful with your blanket statements. There's many different types of people from Chalmette and many are no different than others in the surrounding area

Extremely nice. Slidell is also the home of Louisiana's best living artist, George Dunbar. His property on Bonfuca is amazing.
Yep.
He had a cool place before Katrina and had serious damage if not completely destroyed along with a lot of his very valuable artwork.

I'm good friends with his son. The older son died recently. Been to the old property 100 times and the new one is just unbelievably nice.

I remember getting a strong Gulfport, MS vibe from Marietta the first time I went there... at least, compared to Decatur, Buckhead, Sandy Springs, etc.

That is the stupidest fricking Bull shite I’ve ever heard in my life.
BR people like to ignore the problems they have and had - and Katrina is a great situation in which to place blame
Traffic was horrendous before hand
- my dad always avoided BR bc of traffic even in the 1980s - crime was bad beforehand because there has always been a lot of drugs and prostitution bc of the state legislature and the universities - problems have escalated just as they have everywhere else
White people in Baton Rouge like to forget black people have always lived there - and any black person that commits a crime must be from New Orleans
WRONG

I remember each house came with it's own white hood when you moved in!!1
Probably wasn't too popular down the road around Verret, though.

It’s kind of like Denham Springs right?
Middle class whites left the “City” because of all the negative influences like drug use, broken homes, teen pregnancy, and crime amongst the Black population and moved to be neighbors with trailer trash White populations with drug use, broken homes, teen pregnancy, and crime.
Garbage vs trash….so people make fun of the ignorant dumbasses.
