Wow Louisville is #2? Not surprising I lived there for 2 years but all the murders happened on the west side of town where all the gang bangers lived

Jackson, like every major city, has parts of it that are indistinguishable from third world countries. However, the immediate surrounding areas have some of the nicest places to live, good schools, good people. I’ll never live in the 9th ward in NOLA like I wouldn’t live in the slums of Jackson all the same. Jackson gets shite on a lot here despite the majority of the people are from NOLA, BR and Shreveport.

No one from that shite stain of a state has any room to trash Jackson.

The city I live in had 34 murders in what was a record year. It is roughly the size of Jackson in population. We are talking about a city, not an entire state. Louisiana has more urban areas than Mississippi.

By all means, go visit. One weekend should give you all the validation you need.

Depends on where u go. You might get murdered, and you might have an experience of a lifetime…

I've lived in Jackson "proper" for about 20 years. It has many issues that unfortunately are not going away. However as others have said it depends on where you live and who you interact with. I live in the "better area" Northeast Jackson. Most of the crime and killings are in South and West Jackson but my area has its share of break-ins and car thefts. We were broken into in 2010 and luckily they only took small stuff and electronics. Wife (no pics) didn't set the alarm that day.

While Jackson isn't great, its not as bad as everybody not from here claims. Most people here wish it was Memphis or New Orleans for culture and things to do, so our crime stats aren't that bad compared to those two. The surprising thing to me is that Jackson and the metro area has some great restaurants considering how crappy everyone thinks the town is.

Because maybe some thugs snatched this girl, beat her up and set her on fire along side of a highway?
