Looking to get away before I start a new job in 2 weeks. $400 round trip to any of the major Florida airports? Ridiculous.
That's crazy. My wife flew to Orlando in March for ~$230 round trip.

Merging of major airlines, fuel increase, within 2 weeks of flight...there's a lot of reasons it's 400 dollars, and to be honest, that's on the low to average end of all major airlines outside of Southwest. I book usually 3-4 weeks out and 350-400 is normal so getting that at two weeks really isn't terrible.

Call your government and complain about the mergers.
It's hard to tell Continental and United no when they've allowed Delta and Northwest to merge, TWA and AA, etc.
Try to avoid O-D flights into and out of fortress hubs like Memphis, Cincy, or St Louis and be open to layovers in Atlanta, Dallas, or Houston. Keep an eye out for deals and always consider low cost carriers like Frontier or Southwest.
If you are flying from a place like Jackson or Shreveport with a destination in a hub city like Atlanta, prepare your anus. You'll probably pay more than the guy on your flight who is passing through Atlanta to a final destination in BFE.
New Orleans and Baton Rouge at least keep each other fairly reasonable at times.

Yeah 3 super airlines have basically been formed over the last decade.

I got a round-trip through United to Shanghai for $840 earlier this year. We booked 8 weeks before leaving. That seemed pretty cheap.

Why does it cost so much to fly now?
So the four major airlines controlling 70% of air traffic is having an impact on prices? Jeez that is shocking.

I've heard Emirates is thinking about getting into the US domestic market.
If that happens, the game drastically changes.

$400 ticket isn't outrageous.
Get a rewards credit card and get points towards your flights.

Tell me about it! I fly back forth from New Orleans to St. Kitts every 4 months and it is getting very pricey.
It has gone up almost $500 since I made my first trip down here last August.

Just depends on destination. Flights into London 3 months ago were $1400-1500.
It does depend. A lot has to do with when you book your flight, and also what time of year the flight is going to be. Also ease of travel is a big consideration as well as destination. I was just refuting the fact that $1500 for a flight to Europe is "extremely cheap". There are much cheaper flights to Europe. I would say that $1500 is more like a normal priced flight, not an extremely cheap one.
