Why does everyone go to the hot a*s beach in the Summer?

All the 30A hate floating around the OT has me wondering why you f*ckers go to a place that is hotter than where you are now? I used to go to the beach when I was in college, but I don't go because I hate being hot and I hate sand.
I always enjoyed going to lakes up North and to mountain areas where its cooler in the Summer. Am I the only one around here who feels this way?

I usually go to the mountains or up north in the summer but beach in winter and spring. Fall for Europe or SA.

Usually a pretty constant breeze. Doesn’t seem overly hot to me compared to SELA.

Fall after Labor Day is the ticket. Still warm, but not oppressive, less traffic, lower rates, better restaurant service.

Yeah...by the time summer comes around I am sick of the heat

Because the wife (no pics) wants to go to the beach, baw.

Agreed, but my wife and kids always liked it. My own personal version of hell is to be perpetually sweating my arse off on the beach in 95 degree temps, just sitting there roasting.
The problem is that there isn't that much else that's easily drivable and also interesting from the Gulf Coast

We’re going to South Dakota around the 4th. So much to see in this country besides the gulf beaches.

Not bad with an umbrella and a good breeze. Some cold drinks in an ice chest make it somewhat enjoyable.

Went with family to fort Walton during the “heat dome” last summer

I go in May or October generally.
But if we happen to go in June it’s nice to be at beach mid morning until noon and then out again late afternoon. Pool time is mixed in too.
Mountains and lakes are great too.

Used to be for the eye candy; we’re a long way from that on the gulf coast at this point, unfortunately.

I was in Minnesota and Canada last week wearing a jacket or sweater almost every day it was great.

To swim with sharks and live to tell about it.

I put my chair in the water. The sounds of birds and waves crashing puts me in relaxation mode. There’s no better place. I don’t go to public beaches though.
