If someone asks “what’s your birthday” then I say “may 10th” (not my birthday, and an example being dating a new girl)
If the lady at the liquor store asks for my “date of birth” then I say “5-10-86” because I always assumed that’s what the cashiers input and I don’t want to confuse them

They also say it like "5th day, 9th month, 1942." I have wondered as well why they say it differently than other people.
