I don't know why they do, I am just glad I am funny. Or at least a portion of females find me hysterical, namely my wife.

I dunno. Worked for me though. My wife says the first thing she noticed about me was that I made her laugh. We've been married 18 years and one day and have two kids.

The answer to the OP's question is that women have to feel something. That's what drives everything that they do, emotion. If you cannot push the right emotional buttons with a woman she won't find you interesting.

Answer A: Even if you look like a statue, if you're an unfunny dick, no one likes you. Certainly, the girl you have your eye on doesn't want to spend her life with you.
Answer B: A good sense of humor and quick wit generally translates into higher than average intelligence. Intelligence translates into "not working a low paying job". A good job translates into money. Money goes into "I'll be taken care of." which is what 99% of women truly want. Added bonus is that their kids could be intelligent and thus be more successful. It has many advantages from the perspective of women.

well that explains why I have been asked by several women to marry them. I have been unintentionally funny since I was in the 8th grade.
At parties, I get people to laughing, with fake accents, and stories. And some women have asked me to marry them. Now and then, I do.

Because we are alpha males with type A personality, (left brain or right brain matters very little) the most desirable mates to help them improve the gene pool. We don't even necessarily even have to be funny. An attempt is recognized. They laugh to please us and thereby attract us.

Because it's fun! Even the bad times are improved when you can find humor in it. Happiness is most important in life, so being with a guy that can help us get more of that is like finding gold.
