Being funny is really just being clever. Since the early human, being clever has helped you stay ahead of the game.
While you may see it as women going after funny men, it is really them going after clever men. It's a way of proving a mix of smartness and awareness.

Obviously anyone who makes you laugh is more fun to be around. Women also like other women who make them laugh. To me, having a sense of humor is a must.
Being married to someone who makes you laugh is wonderful in so many ways. It is hard to stay mad at someone who makes you laugh. My 1st husband and I rarely fought and when we did, our disagreements usually ended with us both laughing which is a win/win.
My best friends can always make me laugh. We could have the worst experiences or disasters together but still end up laughing and turn the catastrophe into stories that we will laugh about for years to come.

Women expect men to provide them with something. Whether that something be excitement, entertainment, a lifestyle, etc. Being funny is one form of that.
