Why do trashy people hate being told to calm down?

I saw someone out last night who was super worked up and almost got in a fight and when their friends tried to calm him down he just kept yelling "don't frickin tell me to calm down bro don't tell me to calm down!" And almost got in a fight with his friends. Why do worked up people react to being told to calm down like someone just kicked their dog?
