I totally agree. Our sales people are taught to form personal relationships with their customers so that they will have the upper hand when the competition comes sniffing around. Also, you won’t get far getting a dimes worth of new business making cold calls. You have to get in front of customers and earn their business.

Is your work and home life not already mixed due to technology? Mine was well before COVID and WFH.

I get multiple emails per week from some salesperson wanting to sell me their service or product and want to schedule a follow up call. After the third or fourth attempt I block their email address. One of them might have been Palmetto.

Your company sounds old school and a terrible place to work

You ignore cold e-mails. You think cold calls are worthless. I don't necessarily disagree, but are you suggesting that sales people just randomly showing up at someone's office is a good thing? I would find that obnoxious.

My previous job had that old school mentality and the people that stayed in the office/home and interacted with clients performed much better than the guys driving around Texas to get a deal. I ended up quitting because my bosses were super old school & stuck on “IN-Person Visits” about that despite not doing that themselves lol.

You’re an idiot. Zoom/teams/video calls do not result in new sales. In person calls and meetings still dominate sales, as it’s still a personal relationship business

You would be surprised. My wife works in sales, completely remote. Her company has no plans of going back to in-person as their productivity and sales has been as high as ever.

We do have a few prospects that are old school, but they are very small and live in isolated counties without interstates lol.

I'm not at all. I like being around people and not living in a bubble.

However, I wish those who are still constantly whining that their manager/director/employer won't let them still work at home every day would do one of two things:

1- Leave and go find a job that will allow them to fill all their yearning desires.

2- If they don't have the fortitude to do #1 above, then just shut up and stop whining to everyone else around you who is enjoying having personal contact in the workplace. No one likes a 24/7 Debbie Downer.

That is all. We don't live in Communist China (or at least not yet). Go find an employer who will let you work how you choose if your current one is making you so miserable.

I think we haven’t seen a full revolution in how this will all play out.

Working remotely has become a large bargaining chip for workers these workers.

A lot of companies still have leases or own office space that they want filled to make it worth the cost. If they have an office FHAs holds 50 people and now only 30 come to that office and 20 are remote, it’s bad for the cost per head ratio. They want to get as much into that space as they can.

As companies sort through how many they need in an office they will adjust their space and actually save money by having people work remotely. They won’t need space for 50 so they’ll downsize to hold fewer.

pretty much.

full disclosure...i frickign hated working from home, but i only got to do it while kids were out of school so maybe it would be different otherwise. I also like to seperate work from home

and lastly i hated it because the system we use is a huge pain in the fricking arse to use remotely. All the programs were slow as hell and even getting to files was pain in the arse unfortunately.

my old job i used to work remotely from field sites and it wasnt bad at all...but current company system sucks when working remote.

also i work in a field were you have to go out and actually look and touch things, hard to do from home.

but in general I dont see a problem with work from home so long as production stays the same or better. We came back to the office because production was not staying the same and had dripped a good bit.

Not having to waste time and money on a pointless commute. Not having to waste money on "business casual" attire. Being able to live anywhere and not be tethered to some dumpster fire pod city like NYC or SF to make great money.

You people who depend on your jobs for your social lives are the weirdest of them all.

Maybe not that poster, but there is one guy here (AUB86 or something like that) who absolutely does. He quit his last job because of it.

Look, having some sort of rapport with colleagues, I understand, but needing to be around people as a reason for supporting in-office work is odd.

I also work with colleagues around the world, and did before COVID, so there never was a "being around those people" on a day-to-day basis.

I have my own friends and my family. I don't need to be in an office to be around people.
