Why do so many people dress their pets?

I’m not talking about for warmth. My neighbor sews all kinds of costumes for his Pomeranians. He’s a big Saints fan, so right now they are dressed in Saints “jerseys.” I almost lost it when I saw him wearing a sweater with a photo of his Pomeranians under the caption “They think I’m the sassy one!”

Not sure why, but I have always sort of irrationally hated people dressing up their animals in clothes. It’s just beyond weird to me for whatever reason, and has always been a huge pet peeve of mine (no pun intended).
