Many surveys and studies show that lower income people tend to be happier in general than those with higher income.

What is your theory on this phenomenon?

They aren’t. Happier people tend to be happier in life, money isn’t the factor.

That’s not what he said. He made a statement that poor people tend to be happier in average than rich people. Which we can assume he means financially. I don’t know for a fact but I’m pretty sure there are studies that support this

Dumb people are happier than smart people who are aggravated constantly by stupid shite all the dumb people do on a daily basis.

The rich guy lives next door to a trashy piece of trailer drunk meth smoking criminal.

The poor guy lives next to a nice quiet respectful law abiding citizen.

Who is happier about the state of the neighborhood?

Money can’t buy happiness. I would guess that not having money is one less distraction from what makes people happy. And I’d assume what makes people happy comes from millions of years of evolution conditioning humanity to be most comfortable with a life that’s involves family, friendships and faith.

Have to say, some of my favorite memories are when I had little. College, military deployments, rebuilding after 2016 flood...I think Buddhist monks may be on to something.

If the meth head is living next to the rich guy, I'm going to assume that he's also pretty rich

Live more for the moment
Don't worry about appearance
Know how to deal with adversity

I've heard the "happiest" people are those who make around 80k a year. Enough to live decently upon yet not so much that they don't have some adversity in life.

Because there’s always hope that things will get better, dreams will come true, etc...Their goals are still attainable, or at least they think, there’s no place to go but up.

This is more my reasoning for it.

It seems they enjoy the smaller things in life like sitting on a porch on a day like today.

Poorer people tend to be more impulsive and not see the long view, living in "the moment" far more often than not. The smarter people I know all have forms of exestential dread. My life, on the grand scale, is meaningless. While I find meaning living my own life, I understand just how small I am in the scheme of things.
