re: Why do people use their emergency flashers when it’s raining?

Night isn’t the problem. It’s a 4pm complete whiteout with a grey or white vehicle in front. In that situation, the car is invisible and with some daylight left the running tail lights are useless. If they are going 40mph below the speed limit, id like to know about it.

What about the people who use flashers on their truck while hauling the washer, dryer, and fridge going well above the speed limit in the left lane. Nothing pisses me off more than people who use flasher on their vehicle when they are speeding down the road.
They are dumb.

B/c people want to be more visible to decrease their chance of getting hit, Einstein.

We go through this same thread every year. In Louisiana, it is legal to do this. I have read posts about people saying state troopers have said it is illegal. They don’t know the laws then. A few years back when they had a major pileup in New Orleans East on I-10, WWL was interviewing Trooper Madey(ot however her name is spelled). She stated it was illegal. When WWL asked her for the specific statute, she said she would get back with them. When she did get back, she said it was actually legal, but people should just pull over and stop. Wether people like it or not, it is legal in Louisiana. I don’t do it because I can drive safely in the rain. I agree people should pull over and stop if they feel they can’t drive safely.

If traffic on the interstate slows to a 35mph crawl due to a monsoon like rain event I do like most others do and turn on my flashers. I don’t change lanes and I just travel about 50 yards behind the car and keep pace. I expect the person behind me to do the same. It is very easy to maintain a safe distance doing this and to stay focused on the car in fronts brake lights. It is funny to see the hot heads get so worked up over this and get over dramatic. “Don’t you understand that the flashing lights can trick people(yeah, reckless morons) into thinking you are stopped, etc, etc.” Only a fricking low IQ moron would use that as an argument. Seven out of fricking ten cars have their flashers on but you suddenly think this one car is stopped. Weak excuse used by internet bad arse retard who is apparently so dumb and lacks situational awareness to the point they can’t figure out where they are on the road because of flashers. LOL! If fricking flashers are going to cause you to slam your Camaro into the rear of another vehicle then it’s probably you that needs to get of the road. Just means you are a reckless, impatient retard who was following to close to begin with and lack control. I will keep on doing it my way and you won’t do a damn thing about it. Guess what 32 year driver has never been at fault in a wreck and only has one moving violation? I bet most of the butt hurt asshats in this thread crying about this have had a handful or two of speeding tickets, failures to stop, probably at least one DUI and been in more than two wrecks.
I am the regulator and if you get behind me you will go as fast as I let you go.

Because they are assholes who have no regard for anyone else on the road.

How are you not grasping that a big flashing light in the rain makes visability worse?
That is only the case once you are up close, and it doesn't matter as much because if the weather is that damn bad you don't need to be passing anyway.
How can you not grasp the idea that hazards make you much more visible from further away. That is the point. To alert you from further away to slow down.
If someone is going 30 due to the shite visibility and your dumb arse is still coming up behind them doing 70+ would you rather have more or less time to react?

On the other side of the world, people on a highway will turn on their flashers for a few seconds to let others know they are braking hard.
