They also think that cardboard with a little tomato sauce slopped on it with a bit of cheese is Pizza.

Best Pizza I've ever ate was from a small shop on 8th avenue in NYC. Slice and a coke $5.00

But NY has some awesome bakeries and the rolls and bagels get delivered every morning at around 4AM.

A New York BEC is ALWAYS made to order. You walk in and get on line. The grill cook will shout who’s getting a sandwich and you place your order from any position on line. Then they make your coffee ring you up and bag up your stuff and as soon as your sandwich is ready the grill guy drops it in your bag and youre off. Within minutes you have a gooey drippey hot egg sandwich with bacon and melted cheese.

This is great, it just isn't unique or original to New York

I linked the picture directly from the original article claiming that whatever that shite is is taking over the world, and they included it without a shred of self awareness

You linked a Vice article from 2018
It was a fake pic

What you posted looks fine, but again, that looks like a decent version of standard Texas or Southern BBQ. It's New York appropriating from elsewhere.

Where else woulf it be from? Or are you going back to your 2018 vice article

The owner of Bark is dominican so its his take on Southern BBQ

“Bodega” culture, which is itself trying to make average convenience stores “special”

That always mystified me

I mean the only difference is that they have no room and have everything crammed together. Our convenience stores sometimes look better because they have more shelf space.

Gas station around the corner from our house will make you a fresh BEC breakfast biscuit. Make the biscuits every morning. They're slow moving redneck white women with FUPAs though, a bit different experience

I think people are conflating food originality and experience. It's weird.

I've had a fresh NYC BEC on a fresh roll and prefer a fresh biscuit

Actually I prefer a fresh tortilla too.

ETA:

Point is, the food isn't unique. You guys just have a fascination with bodegas.

This old New Yorker cover perfectly captures the attitude of many in Gotham:

We all just live in flyover country.

Isn't bacon on a bagel kinda sinful?

My New Yorker mom fed us kids a Western omelette sandwich every Friday night because that was a night she would not cook . It was basically a Denver omelette with ketchup on sandwich bread and somehow it worked.

She also put butter on white rice.

Like all my friends who left Baton Rouge and "miss Piccadilly so much." That cafeteria food was never good. And they want to fight me every time I remind them it sucked.

It’s a freaking bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich.
Only foolish hipsters think nothing else comes “close to matching the experience”.
Anthony Bourdain nailed guys like you perfectly, describing hipsters sipping beer, wearing funny looking hats, and scribbling notes after each sip.
It’s a sandwich. It’s not rocket science.

I don’t have to leave my neighborhood and can get that from a gas station tomorrow morning at 5 AM with a older Black Woman that calls everyone Baby, or the middle aged white woman that’s calling everyone Hun. They know everyone’s names but baby and hun just sound better, just like the food that’s be prepared by those ladies taste better than anything coming out of a corner store in NY. Should I really believe that NY can make an unhealthy breakfast sandwich better than some home grown women from SE Louisiana?
