Why do jobs always ask redundant background questions.

Are you hispnaic or non-hispanic

What is your ethnicity? ( They give you the option to not answer, but I answer honestly. I feel this is a trap. )

Are you authorized to work in the US ( I get suspicious about this question in particular, as I always assume they want H1-B visas)

Also a bunch of veteran and other stuff not remotely related to the position at hand.

Every job ad is the same thing.

Thanks Obama is your answer.*

*Not actually his fault but almost every one of those questions are government required to verify that employers are not discriminating. That's right, just because you own your business and pay exorbitant taxes to do so doesn't mean you can just run it the way you want. No Sir, you didn't build this.

As anyone who has ever applied for jobs in the public sector would agree, what would piss me off the most were the lengthy online applications asking for all the same damn information that's on my resume, and then asking me to attach my resume at the end. WTF?

HR people are mostly those who fell into it from somewhere else they were not good enough to be.

You can thank pandering to political correctness and making sure employers don't hire white people.

You of all people should be glad about these hiring rules, I would imagine you will be hired instead of a more qualified white person because they have to fill some quota.

It does not always work as an affirmative action tool. Some minorities benefit from it. However, the sheer tediousness of the application combined with employers incentive to rush for candidates ensures that alot of people do not stand a chance of even getting their application reviewed.

It would be easier to simply have a job handed to you via a contact. Unfortunately I do not have one.

So do I. I never pass up a chance to tell a potential employer I'm white.

Simple explanation...in most cases your electronic application is going into a database. By having you list out your job history in the application itself as opposed to just uploading a resume, it makes it easier for recruiters or hiring managers to mine that data from the system.

In the case of my company we would also like to have your actual resume so we can pass it on to a potential customer. I don't want to and sometimes am not allowed to make a resume on an applicants behalf.

Yes, it's a little extra work on he applicant, but if you are seeking employment, you do what you need to do.

Liars lie about small things as well as important things. Gives them grounds for termination.

After filling out at least 50-60 applications prior to graduation when I was in college, it was well worth it to have that job lined up before walking across the stage.

If you feel that filling out an application is tedious, then the whole actually working thing is really going to be a ball buster for you.
