Bonnie the wonder dog found what was left of a dead deer and dragged it to the tall grass down the hill from our house.
Every so often she'd slink off, chew off a bit of deer and drag it into our yard to roll around on, over and in. It was more bones than she could chew so she'd leave them where our lawnmower would reduce the size, or at least sometimes reduce the size.
In a similar vein, a story appeared on Gardenweb called appropriately "Dog in Elk". The story lives on because the images, one seen mentally, deserve some sort of immortality

Country dogs do it too. It’s just that over time the same funk doesn’t get them as excited anymore. Spray them down with a hose enough and they’ll learn.

Leave their scent on it so they can take credit for the kill.

Realize what we find pleasant to smell...dogs don't necessarily agree with.
A lot of fragrances we find pleasant in soap...dogs don't really care for. So after being washed they try remove the foul smell they smell.
