Key West has a short arse runway, and it’s hot as frick. The hotter it is, the more your airplane says “frick you” when you tell it to fly. The heavier your airplane is - the same effect. Combining those two things = a double frick you. Not typically an issue getting in, but almost always an issue getting out.

A more succinct answer.

Because airlines overbook, i.e.,poor planning.

Some are acting like air travel is new. It's been around what, 7 or 8 decades. It stinks now because of TSA, airlines are not penalized for overbooking and passengers are not penalized for weight.

Had to pick up my sister from the airport and they were delayed by three hours. It was after 2 am. Almost every flight is delayed anymore. I like driving more anyway.

it stinks largely because of deregulation, but even moreso by the decline of decency in our society, the overbookings are legal and were implemented because of passengers abusing the reservation system, back in the days of paper tickets it was spelled out on the back of the ticket, TSA sucks but you can blame that on Osama

Understood. The airlines are businesses. They play by the rules levied by the FAA, NTSB, DHS, and Bernoulli to maximize profits. Change the rules and they have to change their practices.

TSA was birthed after 9-11 under Bush, not Obama (I think). It's the price the free world pays for the privilege of flying with adherents of the "peaceful religion."

no worries mate, those bastards had a bigger impact on us, and particularly air travel, than I'll bet that they even imagined

Because they can. Barely one step above the government.

Best of bad alternatives.

Interesting that as you go down the gangway there are bunches of passenger pictures. Not a single white businessman in any of the pics, the one group who provides the profits.

The fiasco with what happened with Southwest and their whole system wide crash during the holidays is a great example of an airline not really giving a damn.

Btw, I heard one of the trial lawyers running ads recently to sign up for a class action suit against SW for that shitshow. I'm assuming they have very little chance of winning anything. Any opinions on that?

Can sometimes work for small overages. When they’re asking 12 people and their bags to stay behind, that’s a problem that leaving a bags behind won’t fix.
