So the airline played a game and is losing because they didn't properly plan for hot weather in south Florida in July?

I don't think the runway changed length anytime recently, but I'm not sure on it.

Just seems like poor planning.

Those foolish passengers, buying tickets for seats on flights the airlines are selling. How silly of them.

or more likely passengers booking seats on multiple flights, maybe multiple airlines, and taking the lowest fare and not cancelling, or revenue standby passengers with tickets on later flights that show up early and try to get on an earlier flight, weight restriction is a different issue but most likely the flight was oversold as well

ETA: in either case it's not a personal attack on the infrequent flier, nor an indication of all airlines sucking

They are up to $1k. This is the only direct flight to DFW today and not interested in renting a car to drive to Miami.

Take the $$ and enjoy a free trip! You can get to Europe, South America, Hawaii, etc for that price. Also it's Saturday, do you have plans tomorrow morning that you have to be back in time for? There's an 815pm out of Miami that gets you back around 1030pm

Eta; Or barter them up to $1500 and say you'll do it otherwise you're getting on the plane

So, quite literally, buying tickets for seats on flights the airlines are selling.

What do standy passengers have to do with a flight being oversold by 12 seats?

weight restriction is a different issue

That the airline was aware of well in advance but still sold seats for anyway.

What does the frequency of a flyer have to do with an airline selling 12 more seats on a plane than they are capable of accommodating?

nor an indication of all airlines sucking

All airlines do suck, especially domestic US airlines. You’re welcome for the numerous tax payer funded bailouts that keep you employed.

No.

Not every flight between city A and city B is the exact same everyday or even every flight.

Things like the route ATC gives you, weather enroute, the number of bags people show up with, taxi time, etc.

So many variables at the time of departure it is impossible to anticipate.

The fact that people show up and get where they’re going and just have this expectation/entitlement is a testament to how well air travel actually works.

The average passenger has no idea how much goes into just one flight.

I'm sure your kids would love if you took them on a nice trip courtesy of AA. I get it though, your own bed is always nice. Just trying to help you get some $$ on your way back

Why are you traveling? Don’t you know we have a climate crisis. Stay home.

Pretty much spot on. Flying is a miserable experience. I'll only get on a plane if drive is more than 15 hours or international. I expect cancellations, over bookings, maintenance issues, server failures and air traffic controller shortages. That way I'm pleasantly surprised when it goes well.

Sitting here in Key West waiting on my flight to board soon for DFW, the desk made an announcement that they need 12 volunteers to delay their travel due to weight restrictions for the flight. This one in particular is American Airlines. Are they trying to haul too much cargo which pays more than passengers?
they saw your fat arse group roll up to the gate and realized the average weight just went up bigly

Air Midwest Flight 5481 is a landmark crash for smaller planes and the weight issue.

Flying isn’t nice anymore. Thanks to miserable welfare program disguised as “safety” called the TSA, overcrowded flights filled with trashy rude selfish a-hole passengers and worker shortage across industry due to Covid

industry that literally forced all of its best pilots to quit/retire because they didn’t want to get a useless bullshite Covid shot.

You pay a premium to get herded through line after miserable line with bullshite “thanks for flying with us we appreciate you messages” read by unhappy flight attendants but are supposed to be grateful for it.

You can fly across the country for a few hundred bucks. You aren't paying a premium.

If you pay a premium (1st class) then you get a better experience.

People love to bitch about airlines but it's a commodity nowadays.

Everything that is "for the masses" ends up turning to shite.

Wait until we get single payer health care, your doctors visits will be like going to Walmart.

Great question. I’d imagine most of the workforce issues a lot of business are dealing with today is amplified with airlines. Can’t find people to work. Thisclose to missing flight today because of bag drop line being worked by people too slow, or didn’t care.
