Wermacht did a study on invading Switzerland. Wasn't worth the cost. Armed population would have made the casualty count way too high.

Had a good friend who was a Swiss engineer. He said every bridge an tunnel in Switzerland is designed to be blown up in less than 24 hours notice.

Basically every bridge and tunnel and the world can be blown up in less than 24 hours.

Are you suggesting there is no mass shootings because they dont have access to those weapons?

I didn't know that they don't have access to their weapons. If I'm suggesting anything, it's that crazy people are responsible for mass shootings.

Why would you invade a country that is fully collobrating with you and continued to do so for 30 years after the end of the war? (And saying 30 years is being generous. There's probably still frickers hiding Jewish assets looted by the Germans.)

This is where my Great grandfather migrated from. We traced our family ancestry back several generations. I had some visit a couple of years ago. They were very polite but you knew that they were protective of their homeland. Most are serious Christians. I think they are proud of the fact that they were not forced to shed blood.

Nah. Not without planning. Unless you're talking about movies.

The northern third of Switzerland, with most of the population, industry, and other things of interest to an invader, is a lot less mountainous. It would be a lot easier to conquer the valuable region and let the partisans starve in the hills.

But the partisans is everyone and they had food kits to survive like two god damn years. The Nazis would have been picked off one by one. There are so many fricking bunkers and guns in that country that there’s no way the Nazis could have held it. Per square mile, it’s 100 times worse than trying to invade America.

The difference is I believe they arent allowed to actually use their weapons unless it is war time.

Well that's not true.

I wonder why they don't have frequent mass shootings like we do. Maybe better mental health outreach?

That and they aren't nearly as athletic and explosive as we are.

I read. I suggest you do it some time.

quote:

All healthy Swiss men aged between 18 and 34 are obliged to do military service and all are issued with assault rifles or pistols which they are supposed to keep at home.

Twenty years ago the Swiss militia was a sizeable force of around 600,000 soldiers. Today it is only a third of that size but until recently most former soldiers used to keep their guns after they had completed their military duties, leading to lots of weapons being stored in the attics or cupboards of private Swiss households.

quote:

I do as the army advises and I keep the barrel separately from my pistol," he explains seriously. "I keep the barrel in the basement so if anyone breaks into my apartment and finds the gun, it's useless to them."

He shakes out the gun holster. "And we don't get bullets any more," he adds. "The Army doesn't give ammunition now - it's all kept in a central arsenal." This measure was introduced by Switzerland's Federal Council in 2007

Hitler would've obliterated Switzerland in a week, no matter how many guns they had.

He didn't cause they were basically on his side.

But you knew the 2nd amendment nuts would chime in. Most Afghanis & Yemenis have Ak-47s ,but they aren't preventing a major military power from invading & controlling their country.

The Swiss would have been at best hiding in remote mountainous regions with their rifles just like the Taliban. Or fled to other European countries to continue the resistance( just as the Taliban in Pakistan).
