Why did racism pick up speed in the 50's?

The civil war ended some time in the 1860s. You never really hear much about racism until the 1950s. A silent almost 100 years. I'm sure there were still racists but it wasn't as popular I guess?
Was there a moment that made things kick off in the south with separate water fountains and bathrooms or had that been going on the whole time and it just took until the 50s for black people to get fed up?

There's no way this is a serious post.

Simple answer to a complex question: While slavery was outlawed, segregation and discrimination were not.

I'm serious. It seems people got along in the 20s and 30s just fine. Then boom, riots in the 60s.

Blacks used to want to go to schools with whites, but whites didn’t let them. Then whites let them. Now blacks want black only schools and work places. It’s tricky.

You ever heard of Brown VS the Board of Education?
Racism picked up when Segregation started dying
ETA:: Overt Racism, I mean. Obviously racism was pretty rampant throughout. The second Klan came out in like 1915 and were very influential. I mean shite "The Birth of The Nation" was viewed in the white house

The civil rights movement started to gain traction in the 50s.

There is no way you’re serious. Either this is a troll post or you have literally no knowledge of the south

Are you serious with this comment? Do you not consider institutionalized and codified segregation to be racist?
