Sometimes, allowing her to "win" is really a win for yourself and your marriage.

If it's such a win for the marriage then why doesn't she just allow you to win?

The thing with conflict is that it can be a means to an end for the reasons behind the conflict. Allowing someone to "win" is just postponing the issue. It'll resurface and you'll be forced to address it again and again.

Because she is a woman and is incapable of rationality.

Got a lot of dudes out there who think the key to a happy marriage is being a stooge for their wife. They think they'll get "brownie points" from their wife if they just agree with her on everything. It turns out conflict is perfectly natural and healthy for relationships. It allows two people to genuinely respect each other as individuals, especially when that conflict is resolved in a healthy way.

Its a shame you allow your wife to disagree with you at all.

It's a win for the marriage when you let her win and her idea fails and then you say "I told you so, you idiot."

It's like marriage 101.

I don't want someone who agrees with me on everything.

I had a girlfriend once who agreed with everything I said. I eventually lost respect for her and treated her like crap. It wasn't a conscious decision. It just happened.

My wife and I reenact the "twist the handle" scene from My Cousin Vinny all the time.

The person who wrote this article will be divorced soon. Conflict isn’t healthy for a relationship. That’s why you find someone that shares similar interests, values, and goals as you to begin with. You can disagree on things and come to a compromise. But if you’re actually fighting about things, there are deeper issues in your relationship

I think the differences in opinion in regards to this is largely dependent on how you define conflict.

The couple who is constantly bickering and having full-fledged shouting matching when you're all out are not in a healthy relationship.

However, never having any issue to solve in you entire relationship doesn't sound very healthy either. But if you are compatible and share common opinions/interests, this shouldn't happen much.

Why Conflict Is Healthy for Relationships

Conflict is good, fighting is bad. The wife and I disagree on many things. But we have a motto pick our battles. I pick mine and she picks hers.

Disagreement is conflict. It's not about "fighting," it's about addressing areas of disagreement and coming to a resolution that doesn't require one person placate the other.

Like you said, the idea is to find someone that shares similar interests, values, and goals. That's compatibility. There are still disagreements between compatible partners.

I think disagreements are perfectly healthy. Angry, hate-filled disagreements are not healthy. They are the result of issues that weren't addressed prior to the disagreement. The problem I see is that a lot of men are told to just agree with their wives to keep them happy (women were told to do the same thing with their husbands for a long time). That eventually leads to a lack of individuality, and both men and women who are unhappy.
