Why are you husbands so insecure about your wives?

Walking back to the office from lunch break yesterday.
I hear some girl yelling my name.
It's a girl that was my neighbor when I was a teenager that I haven't seen in 10 years.
She runs up squealing omg it's been forever and gives me a hug.
I said "Hey, we should grab a coffee or bite to eat some time".
She replies "I would like to but I don't think my husband would approve. He wouldn't want me to be alone with another guy"
I said "ok, whatever, take care".
This is a girl I never dated.
I had girlfriends while we were neighbors and she had boyfriends.
There was a mutual attraction growing up, but we never even dated.
Why are husbands so weird about this kind of stuff?
EDIT: Clarification since people seem to be confused.
As I said , when she chased me down I was heading back to the office.
I didn't have time to chit chat.
Since she works near my office I thought that instead of saying " hey, nice to see you, running late, bye" that I would be cordial and say "hey, let's grab a coffee or lunch sometime" since she worked across the street.
Geesh, you fellas don't have much confidence that you're able to please your woman if you're that terrified of her having lunch or coffee with an old childhood friend.
I would hate to go through life so pathetic and insecure.

I haven’t a clue. Photographs of wife and other sloot would help however.

If you're attractive, it's okay and they'd say yes from my experience.

You asked her on a date and she said her husband wouldn’t like that. What’s confusing here? Lol

Why did you want to go get something to eat or a coffee with her?

Sounds like someone finished second in the “frick their neighbor” race.

She didn’t want to go out for coffee with you and she was using her “husband” as an excuse.

a cup of coffee with an old friend is a date?
I guess we have different expectations from dates

Ehhhh. It's not insecurity, so much as it is a guardrail. I don't have lunch, ever, with female coworkers alone. All my other female friends are married, and I've either become friends with their husbands or significantly slowed contact.
Respect that covenant. She and her husband obviously do.

Because this is a date and any guy that asks a girl out on a date wants to make the beast with two backs.

She’s not your friend, you haven’t seen her in a decade. You admit to having been attracted to her…
You want to frick her or you or gay

Just being cordial since she ran to say hello and give me a hug.
Didn't think it was any big deal.

What kind of weird frick WANTS to go out and socialize with people they haven’t seen in years? You’re supposed to pretend to be happy to see them, add them on Facebook, and then never speak to them again unless in passing at a store. This is the way.

I bet if he were present he’d mean mug you during the hug and give your hand a super strong squeeze during the handshake introduction.

It’s not. She rejected your advance. It happens all the time. It’s cool
