Everyone depends on studio tech to sound good. Every singer needs de-essing due to the heavy reliance of English on sibilant consonants. Pretty much every singer since late 70's has had some level of pitch correction as well, with the Eventide Harmonizer being one of the first pieces of outboard gear that could process vocals quickly. Live, you need compression to even out frequencies, reverb to create headroom, and maybe a maximizer to raise the audio level higher without the danger of clipping.
There is a remarkable amount of vocal work that has auto-tune, both in pop and in other forms of music. Most of it most people can't hear because it's done only for minor pitch corrections.

There's more talent out now than there's probably ever been. Problem is, you have to look for it because the major record labels really don't put it out. They only put their money behind people that can make club music, which nowadays is usually rap or a form of edm.
However, with how easy it is now to record and put out music on a number of platforms, there's a ton of good music to be heard. Just dont expect to hear it on any radio stations.

Honestly, I think people would be amazed at how thorough the studio process is. The studio is an instrument unto itself. You can get a great sound from a home studio, but having a specifically built studio with a good producer and a good engineer, a warm, responsive console, and with the best of the best in terms of outboard gear results in a massive difference. I've seen an engineer spend a whole day playing snare tracks, thousands of samples, just to find the perfect one, and then spend another day on blending it into the mix perfectly. There are even programs that can algorithmically mimic human error with respect to drum tracks, to give the impression a human drummer, properly mic'ed, actually sat for the producer.
What's funny is all of that can be undone in a live setting by poor technical skills on the part of the singer, or if the singer is just tired from singing a number of nights in a row.

Adult female singers today sound like kids, or baby talk or I don't' know what, but it's terrible....they sing though their nose or something...maybe someonw who knows something about this can explwin why they sound so terrible

I am 100% serious, I think Lady GaGa is as good as you can get. In fact, I rank her just under Whitney Houston.

This chick was only 10 when she sang this. It is an easy song for her, so if you want to see a little glimpse of her ability and range go to the 2:50 mark.

Different style but a teenager with a voice as smooth as honey, started singing with this group when she was 15. You won't believe where this is being recorded.

American Idol and other singing contest TV shows have unfortunately altered what people think constitutes good singing. The tendency to over-sing makes for maybe an impressive display of physical ability but pretty much destroys the overall sound of the music. I agree that Lady Gaga is one of the few with a good strong voice who understands how to use it effectively.
