Singers are still good singers.. that’s just not the same barrier of entry into the market anymore. Most of the time these labels are selling gimmicks and images and not really the actual music itself. That’s the abridged version anyway.

Overall I agree with you but in the example you gave there were extenuating circumstances to make her sound better. She was on a small farm which helps, was pondering life, with all of its twists and turns, but most importantly, a Twister was about to strike which changes the air molecules so she sounds better.

As much of an OTO ghoul as she is, Lady Gaga is legit.
But yeah, most are autotune champs. I think it's because not only can the labels make a star out of anyone, they can have total control over the ones they already have. What primadonna performer is going to walk away from them if they depend on the studio tech to sound good.
