From tsa website
All travelers, including TSA PreCheck® enrollees, must have a REAL ID or other acceptable form of identification (e.g., passport) in order to fly once TSA is enforcing the REAL ID requirement at airports.

The wife (no pics) and I went and got ours yesterday at the DMV in Columbia. 30minutes, employees were beyond nice. Maybe we just have an exceptional DMV?

Yes passports are included. If you already have a base/facility pass you won't need the Real ID until your base pass expires. Mine is good til October so I have some time.

You do realize it has nothing to do with the individual and everything to do with how states produce the ID. I have had one since I renewed my Utah license in 2020(all DLs in Utah were Real ID compliant since 2019). There were no extra hoops for me. Many hoops for Utah. I just have a gold star on the corner of my ID to show that it is compliant.
Edited so that everyone knows, Real ID is just extra steps for states...not you. It is an ID that is harder to counterfeit.

Aren’t you good if you have a passport? Mine is good through 2-27. I’ll get it renewed next year.
I admit Real ID snuck up on me. I’ve traveled internationally and I swear I don’t recall the big deal over it.

You're exactly right. The FF did explicitly state "the right to fly on commercial flights" in all the founding documents.

Same here in Mississippi, I thought that I was doing myself a favor by getting the 8-yr license instead of the standard 4-yr, just to avoid having to visit the DMV for a while, but ended up having to return before it expired just to get a gold star on my license. They sure didn’t advertise it.

I've had a real Id for years now.... also have had tsa precheck for 8 years now... also have had a passport for 10 years now
I honestly dont know what the big deal is... I like to travel for vacations a few times a year, and I also want it to be as easy as possible

They make it such a hassle. Most people aren’t gonna be getting one.
I went to renew my drivers license in 2023 and brought my f*cking passport just so I could get the real ID stupidity and they told me at the DMV I needed the passport and my birth certificate. Who the hell walks around with their birth certificate? They told me I could come back with my birth certificate and I was like hell no. Just give me the regular one and I’ll use my passport to fly.
