Why are people of history being held to today standards?

They are tearing down/changing stuff all over the US because people of history aren’t fitting today standards. Does this means every 10 years we tear down everything? The standards change so much every decade at this pace we need to start with a clean slate ever 10 years.

Yeah but multiple figures of history on a more local scale are being erased because of lesser sins than owning slaves and treating them as property.

While true do we just discount the accomplishments of all the men (and women) of history who owned slaves? That's a pretty long and distinguished list considering the abolition of slavery in the West was only accomplished within the last 155 years.

I mean, to many people yes. It’s the nature of “academics” shitting all over the Enlightenment and the related #cancelSTEM movement.

You're definitely not wrong but that's simply because you have grown up in a world where slavery is illegal, immoral, and downright unthinkable. While it can most certainly be argued that the men who owned slaves within the last 250 years have no good excuse considering conventional wisdom on the subject was beginning to change, the men and women of the pre-Enlightenment period grew up in a radically different world than you and me.

Liberals are turning into socialists. They have to be pissed at something all the time. Perpetually “woke.” After they’ve destroyed the remnants of the atrocities they created in the past (Democrats segregated and lost the civil war), they’ll find something else to be butt hurt about. Abortion, lgbtqrstuv, history, Republicans, onto something else from here. Just a passing moment, to be forgotten when they move onto the next thing to be pissed about.

Just because they can justify something it doesn't make it right. I understand that it happened for many of thousands of years, and people didn't know any different, that doesn't make it right. Should they be erased from history? No. Should they be judged on the full context of their character? Yes.

It ended a long time ago. Was it wrong at the time...sure. Is it an issue in today’s world... no. It’s just an excuse to stir the pot and create a whole shitload of reverse racism that this country is dealing with. People cry racism but their actions create it.
