Mark David Chapman became obsessed with Holden Caulfield's rage against hypocrites and phonies. Then he found a book about John Lennon a few weeks later, One Day at a Time, showing how Lennon had become rich and was living a comfortable life at that time. The rest is history. Crazy.

Catcher in the rye is way overrated. Holden caufield is such a spoiled bitch. Oh noooo my rich prep school friends don't like me. frick you. You whiny frick. Do something interesting. That people think this book is any good is an indictment of society.

My personal favorite book. But I also like killing people when the voices in my head tell me to.
But in all seriousness, it's one of the only books I can read over and over again. Don't know why. I think the way he handles his breakdown is slightly comical. It captures that "I want to act like an adult, but I'm really not one yet" thing very well.

On a side note, who is this generation's version of J.D. Salinger and which modern book is as powerful and inspiring as Catcher in the Rye?

stout,
Since Jesus is no longer taking my phone calls, can you ask him a question for me: Is it true that the United States, Israel, and Saudi Arabia created ISIS as a proxy army to depose Assad, to thwart Iran's growing influence in the region, and to secure natural gas interests for the West to cutoff Russian regional influence?
If true, what does Jesus think of that?
