Why are automakers mixing light types on their vehicles?

A current body style Tahoe was behind me last night. It had halogen headlights, LED accent lights, and incandescent turn signals and looked like shite. Other automakers do it too, fancy LED taillights with 1920’s era dingy looking license tag and reverse bulbs mixed in (Ford, Lexus, MB, etc).

Why not just go full LED and stop this patchwork? I assume cost?

I think more than cost, it is so they can upsell you on the light package. To some people, it is a huge part of the appearance and will move up a trim level just to get nicer lights that cost only slightly more than halogens.

Or the manufacturer will sell a lower trim with "Badass Premium lighting package" for $1500.

People would willingly pay. Hell, on my wife's new rig you could actually double the price of the vehicle with options. GMC just doesn't have to redesign the lighting, people still buy them.

Wait till all of the fancy LED components start failing out of warranty. You'll wish everything was old school.

Because monkey see, monkey do.

All kidding aside, likely due to cost. Higher end vehicles have started the trend and its trickled down.
