I generally don't have problem with any of them . I do what I am told and move on. If they are shitty with me I just tell myself that I am either going on vacation or coming home and they are working a shitty dead end job. With that said, the CSR bitch I talked to Monday from Frontier can DIAF.

that's another of the many problems with the traveling public, they think they know everything about the rules and regs of flying and they see just enough to believe they are an expert, rules, and rights for that matter, are different when you step on a US airliner, they are dynamic and can vary from, "you really shouldn't do that," to "you are in deep shite now, Francis"
I’m talking about airline-specific rules around rebookings, alternate cities, etc.
I’ve had agents tell me I can’t be added to standby list when I’m confirmed on another flight, that I couldn’t even be added to the list without paying change fee (was a platinum and fees were waived), and been told I couldn’t have a seat on flight to MSY when BTR was delayed due to MX.

not my area of expertise, and I'll admit that they do not necessarily comb the ranks of MENSA when hiring agents, but those rules are very dynamic as well, a lot depends on what kind of ticket you have and how it was purchased
ETA: and those agents have some latitude, albeit greatly diminished over the last decade or so, to make judgement calls and accommodate passengers whose itinerary gets off schedule, another good reason to not be an a-hole

You did defend their attitude tho because of the “poverty” wages they “earn”
No baw, I didn't. Can you stop changing my words and thoughts to fit whatever agenda it is that you are trying to attach to me? TIA.
What I said is happening across the country in every low paying job. If you pretend to pay them, they will pretend to work. While more prevalent in minimum wage jobs, the attitude doesn't change much as you climb the food chain by a few dollars an hour.
Now, don't change this to "Hangit says this is the right thing for these employees to do". It is not right of them, nor what I said.

Why are you talking to people at the ticket counter. Check in online, bag drop, and roll out.

this is key, and also the corporate ideology and climate established by upper management factors into this in a huge way

The agents we have here are awesome. Most are retired or housewives working part time, doing it for the flight benefits.
Most have been at the terminal for over a decade and are very pleasant to deal with.

This is how 777 chooses his next side piece.

You'll inevitably have to deal with agents at the gate or counter. Delays, changed flights, etc.

hell yes!! agents and crew schedulers can be some of the wildest freaks you'll ever run across

In that situation, I am sure they are being screamed at, cursed at, etc, by other idiotic passengers, for things completely outside of their control. Worse, flights are so crowded these days, it's hard to quickly get another seat on another flight.
Can kinda understand if they were rude. And lazy... probably just a lack of authority.

I've got really good customer service skills, have taught classes to cruise lines etc.
I could not work in an airport. The publics behavior is on the worst display. Its great people watching but will ruin faith in humanity. Much of the public is rude, pushy, entitled and somehow think they're the only person in the world.

nail, meet hammer, only it's greatly intensified when people enter airport property

Honestly I rarely encounter TSA people who are rude if you know what you're doing. If you can't speak english or don't understand how security works, sure, they get rustled. But if I'm polite they're at worst neutral most of the time. Lazy and perhaps stupid, sure, but not often rude (and I fly from ATL most of the time).
Same for airline employees, except for American, which is a dogshit airline that employs shitty people. Of course, maybe they weren't shitty before they began working for one of America's worst companies and the fact that they have to constantly defend their employer wore them down.

It's unreal how stepping into the terminal creates such anxiety and poor behavior. You see the worst behavior outside of Walmart.

I honestly think it's a defense mechanism of some sort, when people approach the airport to get on a flight, whether or not they admit it, or even realize it, I believe they sense they are giving up what they believe is total control of their life and are somewhat intimidated by the experience, and their obnoxious, pushy, selfish, behavior is their defense, wish they'd find a new schtick

Whataburger employees make on par, what TSA and the ticket counter people make. Poverty wages bring out the worst in people when dealing with the public.

I get anxiety precisely because I want to get where I'm going without issue but without jockeying and fighting with people over it. I think it's cyclical, the 20% of flyers who are totally self-entitled douches make the other 80% of flyers feel like they have to join in the game. The key is kinda like "let yourself get screwed over and don't worry about it" as people shove up to board, to get off the plane, etc. Which I'm good at except it in the rare cases where I really have to avoid getting gate checked or something.
