Why can’t you be in O/G and work in an office? Depending on what you do, you can be pretty well insulated from the market volatility if you’re with corporate.

Apparently his job is isolated from any market conditions and it will never have a downturn.

Nope, I live in BR. But I'm a CPA and have been working steadily from home through all of this.

And just because I choose to live here doesn't mean I have to stay. I'm not locked in to certain regions like oil and gas people are.

Deleted like 2 pages of drunk Wednesday stories.

Most of the plant workers I know are the salt of the earth. Many over extend themselves bc they don’t have the financial education or discipline to handle the paycheck.

Live beneath your means is true for all classes.

I’m sure Bayou Tiger 225 lives in an area completely isolated from the drop in oil prices

Lower regional economic output has the ability to hurt almost every industry.

It's kind of like people that didn't work for banks thinking they were good in 08.

There are several refineries here in the area that still hand out 60% pensions with a 6-9% match. If that doesn’t motivate you to make a switch, nothing will.

I'm not stuck here either but a down oil industry hurts this state which is likely to hurt all other industries.

I'm not denying that the state isn't hurt over the low oil prices, but everyone in industry still has to file their taxes and submit their financials at the end of the day right?

I'd bet most hotel managers, car dealers and home builders don't enjoy rock bottom prices in their industries either

Their industries are a bit more isolated. O&G affects everyone. When budgets are tight and gas is $3.50 a gallon, nobody wants to see a bunch of dancing bananas on TigerDroppings because the price of oil just went up again.

So you’re completely isolated in Louisiana from the precipitous drop in oil prices? Your home won’t lose value? You won’t lose clients?

JK beat me to it

Even the healthcare industry sees big revenue drops during economic downturns. I'm not necessarily referring to coronavirus either. They hurt in 2008-2009 like most other industries. There aren't many that are immune.

Just wait until we completely overhaul the tax code and simplify the shite out of it. What if we just did away with income tax and went solely to sales tax. Yes I know, this will never happen but I can dream.

I'm not claiming to be completely immune. Lord knows my 401k has taken a hit. I just don't feel ultra sorry for the oil and gas baws. They chose an industry that revolves around booms and bust. I chose an industry that provides more stability. I went to college to get to where I am, and they didn't. That doesn't make me any better than them, nor them any better than me. It just is what it is.

I’m an O&G dude. Made some good money off it. What me and fall and some others are saying is low oil prices mean bad (aka worse than usual ) times for LA residents on the whole
