I’m not hating on the stereotypical “oilfiield baw.” I’m just trying to shine a light on how and why they do what they do.

Most of these guys come from lower class families and are suddenly making six figures. They don’t know how to budget or save. They buy everything they never had (nice truck, boat, ATV) for themselves and kids and live life like it’s going to be that way forever. They’re mostly still relatively young and don’t plan for the future.

I’m not gonna fault them for it, but It’s kinda hard to be sympathetic also.

It’s happened on here. Just like those threads about dudes celebrating $4 a gallon gas

I’d imagine the industry crashing makes it harder to laugh off the jokes

I have nothing against any workers or anyone. I actually just bought stock in some oil and gas companies so I hope it recovers quickly e ouch. I just can’t take the oil industry seriously. Seems like a joke, some antiquated idea of mercantilism living in the 21st century. For as much money goes through it, it’s a very immature industry.

Why is it immature? Specifically regarding the majors?

i'm not sympathetic at all for people who make good money, work in volatile industries, and don't prepare for downturns. they should be mocked and ridiculed so the next generation can learn from their mistakes.

Personal injury attorneys in LA should post gloating threads on this board every day.

Are people still grouping operators and oilfield workers together?

To me “oil field worker” refers to blue collar jobs like a roustabout/crane operator/crew boat captain etc.

Operators don’t really fall under blue collar. They have Inside operators that sit in the control room and adjust valve percentages to control the flow rates, pressures, temperatures and overall production. These people are some of your most experienced and valuable assets in a plant, a simple mistake can easily cost a company a few hundred thousand in equipment or production loss.

And there is the outside operator that makes rounds through the unit checking pressures, temperatures, looking for leaks etc. and also fills out work permits for the contractors to perform maintenance. These guys eventually start working in the control rooms if they prove themselves knowledgeable and experienced enough.

Basically if you have a job and aren’t a lawyer or in accounting you’re considered an oil field baw on here

I'm more worried about the river boat pilots than the o&g baws.

There are a lot posters that have nothing more in life than to try and disparage some group on this site. It’s pretty sad. Just see the disdain for the list you gave.

Keep in mind these are the same asses that are so excited to get the stimulus check. Down vote away you pissants!

Many of us make too much money for a stimulus.

Has anybody told this baw that the younger generations aren't doing the whole internet message board thing?

And us old fricks are getting lame and too tired to run 9 alts anymore.

The industry as a whole has some of the biggest scumbags in the planet as major players.
