My dad tried making his own blackening seasoning one year, and he thought all of the paprika found in most blackening seasonings was actually red pepper. The fish was essentially inedible.
He's done the same with deviled eggs as well. Any red seasoning is red pepper and can't be anything else in his mind.

i mean using paprika in place of red pepper might be disappointing... but using red pepper in place of paprika could be painful.

It was, very much so. We caught it about half way through after we had to use a 3rd person to season the filets after they had been placed onto the skillet. The first two had to bow out due to the seasoning in the air.
