to OP..i have a rolex and why or how i came by it is sort of irrelevant. it's a personal decision and if you value it, it should be personally valuable to you only to be worthwhile.
it's not the kind of thing to brag about. as some point out, there are differing opinions if it is even something worthy of bragging over. sometimes i feel silly when others see me wearing it, knowing the monetary value of it. but i personally like mine and am glad i have it. i wear it daily. if it gets scuffed, so what. if i have to sell it one day and do not get back the full value of it, sobeit.

Did the dial turn matte or stay glossy?
I sent it to the NYC Rolex Service center a number of times over the years and they changed the dial around 15 years ago before I knew any better to tell them not to. But after they did that the lume is really bright and I can read the time in the dark much better. At the same time they replaced the hands as well. The original dial was not matte but did start getting some slight hairline cracks.

Is that a piece you bought new or as a vintage purchase specifically because of its rarity?
I saw and purchased it from a mall jewelry store in the early 90’s apparently it had been traded in on another watch. I didn’t know until years later that it was part of a unique run between model changes.

The pearl was actually missing when i got it. One of the reasons i got it for a pretty good price. Everything else is as delivered (although i might have added a scratch or 2).
The missing pearl was driving me nuts so i started looking around and ended up finding an absolutely mangled bezel insert that somehow had a good pearl. This thing was twisted like a figure 8. I scored it on Ebay for $5. Took the pearl out and after a little work got it into my insert. Been wearing it everyday every since i bought it.

No one needs to drop their hard earned money on a fricking Watch.
They’re literally only for show has a $5 Casio tells the same time and your phone has a clock.

I wasn’t talking to you.
I was talking to the OP, who asked for opinions.

What’s your take on nato straps on Subs? I like the look. I think a two tone sub looks very flashy but the simple band makes it much more casual.
I’d imagine the case would wear much faster than the bracelet sitting in a drawer.

The farther back you go, especially pre-early 80's the more ok it looks to me. Once you get to the glossy dials with the WG surrounds on the lume plots, I think NATOs (or any other straps for that matter) work less. I definitely wouldn't do it on a 6 digit case model. In my mind, the Oyster bracelet's marriage to the Submariner or GMT case is one of the best relationships in the watch world, but nothing wrong with putting one on a NATO or any other strap if that's your bag.

Ok. We have seen your watch collection now show us some of your guns
Missed this the first time around. No landed gentry guns for me.
The most expensive guns I have ever owned were my competition rifles (3 position small bore and F-open) and all of them together wouldn't put a deposit on a Purdey.

too poor.
haven't worn a watch in many years.
