Adams inability to keep his mouth shut hurt his popularity at the time and I think it is why we don't remember him more.
Huge part in convincing the 2nd Continental Congress to draft and sign the declaration. Wrote one of the oldest standing constitutions in the world (Commonwealth of Massachusetts), his "Thoughts on Government" set forth many principles that would be used in the US Constitution as well.
First ambassador to Britain and Holland, 1st Vice Pres. 2nd Pres and father to another president.
