The same could be said for a lot of the famous people listed in this thread.

Genghis Kahn
Something tells me, if you show his picture to a lot of Americans. They wouldnt be able to name him.
Is that the rule, recognizable face? If so it's gotta be an NBA player. If they just need to know the name I think it's going to be one of the historical figures that should be known to both Europe and Asia like Genghis Khan, Alexander the Great, etc.

I would say President Donald TRUMP! (May He Reign for One-Thousand Generations) but its pretty clear that he's been directly ordained by GOD to Make America Great Again!!!!!!1!!

The older they are the more dead people that knew them and the fewer the millennials who know the name now.
Mao Zedung was a good answer since the question was for world history and the Chinese population is kinda large.
Ghandi for similar reasons.
Christopher Columbus is well known throughout the Spanish speaking world.
Hitler had an impact throughout the world.
Atilla the Hun and Ghengis Khan swept through some heavily populated countries. Khan is still a very common last name in asia.
I'd think Einstein, Winston Churchill, Shakespeare would be up there too. And plenty of Moderns, Hollywood has a long reach.
