Each Ohio class sub has 24 tubes. Each missile is capable of carrying multiple warheads. There are 18 Ohio class subs (although some have been converted to SSGN's... I think there are still 14 SSBN ballistic missile boats). Of those 14, there are several out there under the oceans at any given time. The numbers on those warheads multiply fairly quickly when you think about it.

For shits and giggles let's say there are 4 SSBNs with full tubes and each has 4 warheads... that's 384 warheads on just 4 submarines.

If you could put all 14 out at one time it would be at least 1,344 nuclear warheads. I think that's enough to frick the world over pretty good.

I was going to ask that question. Do Marines count as Navy since they're technically part of the DoN?

Yes, the Marines are part of the US Navy.

We would just eat the officers. Don't think for a second that submariners wouldn't resort to cannibalism.

Exactly. And then nobody wins this war. That's the thing about our Boomers. They were never intended to be a weapon to win a war. They were made to make it impossible for the other side to win.

They were designed to ensure if anyone ever did attack us, there would be no way for them to win because our counterstrike would wipe them (and most of human civilization) from the face of the earth. Basically iur Boomers it to where it's never worth it to hit the US. But the other side of this double edged sword is it also means we could never use our Boomers first either because the effects would be devestating on us as well.

New START Treaty welded 4 tubes per boat shut, not a big deal though considering you were quite under on your capacity per tube. I would agree that you could completely decimate the country and world. That's not taking into effect radiation fall-out.

I know, but I'm asking if we're considering them a separate branch for this argument.

Then there's not much argument on who wins. I think the Marines would win anyway because of ground fighting ability and having the air power to overcome Army's advantage in troop numbers. If you're adding the Navy to Marines, then they have even more air power, plus own the seas, plus have SEALS for special ops.

The Navy would win because of the nuclear subs. An all out war between the branches wouldn't last more than a week. The nuclear subs would not need to refuel. All they would have to do is destroy the fuel source for the other branches. If trucks, planes, and tanks can't move, what kind of offensive could the other groups mount?

Actually, the entire purpose of ballistic missile subs is deterrence. It's to deter any other country from initiating a first strike against us... bc they know out there somewhere are several hundred nuclear warheads that will wipe them out.

Seriously? I didn't know that. I got out in 07 though... and my last Trident boat was 04. Then I went fast attacks like a real man.

Yeah I just went with a small-ish number... I know how many we're actually capable of carrying. I just didn't want to even remotely take a chance of NCIS knocking on my door.
