8-23-16

Had a gram/day cocaine habit and was an alcoholic to take the edge off. Lost a job, most of my friends and almost my wife and family.

Ive been in recovery over a decade. Just maintenance, not drinking. Did some treatment, AA long ago but now it's up to me.

Best thing to happen to me. Killed off who I was, and a new person created.

Lost everything to alcohol multiple times. Jail, homeless, psych wards, multiple detox units, and more
rehabs than I can count. Decided I had enough and I'm living my best life now.

It’s hard for me to understand how anyone can get addicted to alcohol. It’s such a crappy drug. I understand addictions to pills and whatnot but not alcohol. It’s just an ok high with a hangover.

Sobriety date 6-22-12

Become a big book nazi and indoctrinate yourself. You can deprogram after you have been sober for a while.

Some people have addictive personalities. You and I don’t but their demons are real.

As I've gotten older I've gone from zero refractory period to 10 or so minutes.

It's to my shame.

I appreciate the thread. Made me think about how long it’s been since I made a meeting. Need to go tomorrow.

My wife is also sober and we met in AA

People who think DoUrden is an alter are noobs. Godspeed baw. Fight those demons and urges. You're literally fighting the man in the mirror. I'm rooting for you.

Absolutely. And I’m not trying to belittle anyone or minimize alcoholism. But in a world that has numerous other substances that are better in terms of a high and don’t have the horrible hangovers, it’s just surprising to me. And I get that in the past alcohol was the most attainable drug, and it still is, but other things are more attainable for the average person who seeks it.

I was a functional addict for probably 20 years. Other than some non life-threatening medical conditions (like mfing GOUT) I emerged from it pretty intact.

The earliest days sober are the worst. You'll get there.

I don't crave anything at all anymore

Never taken a drink of Alcohol, brother had a few DWI’s/wrecks and just promised my dad when I was young and never did. Just wondering what the appeal is... make you feel euphoric or just numb....?
