This topic was discussed maybe a year ago. There is a video somewhere out there. The Brazillian gov't has to go and replace the light in the light house every so often. Would suck to be one of those guys

I've seen this on nat geo(and it's been Germanized here,) but they go out to replace the batteries that power the lighthouse and sell tours for the hostel staying, dread wearing, Gallapagos going , peace corps types, they actually pitch tents there and stay overnight

I'd like to get a piece of the girl in your avatar's core, if you know what I mean. I'm already pitching a tent and I would indeed like to stay there overnight

How does the island maintain enough prey for all of those snakes to survive?
It is widely believed they rely on migratory birds, primarily. When the island was separated from the land mass, there were no natural predators for the vipers - and not much prey - which is why they both reproduced so rapidly and developed an extremely powerful venom - because of no predatory threats, but intense competition for prey.

What do these snakes eat for food?

It is close to Mississippi?

free range chickens

Sure but you have to get off the boat first

How do you define close? Because an island filled with 4000 of those super venomous lancehead vipers being off the coast of Brazil is "close" to me, but not a concerning closeness - just a "I'm keeping an eye out" close.

Imagine that experiment in evolution - just have a big barge (somehow snakeproof) - and just start sending free range chickens down a ramp onto the island - after 40 or 50 years, I bet you would have the most awesome, bad arse, fighting chickens that are also immune to pit viper venom.

They could use it for an episode of "Naked and Afraid".
Posted on 6/26/15 at 4:31 pm to 777Tiger
I just watched that video.
Apparently there are snake pirates that are causing the island's snake population to dwindle; selling them for $10-30k per snake.

something tells me that they are a lot better than our Swamp People boy that gets bit by just about every snake he picks up

I would do naked and afraid there. Episode title would be "island of 4,000 snakes and 1 python."
