The Passport 9500 has a cool satellite feature that finds the false signals and makes the system not alert you of those. I've been very happy with it.

Who makes the best radar/laser detector?I'm wanting to invest in one. Anyone have any recent experience with any they can recommend?

Anyone know if there is a detector that will pick up a Lydar unit? Got caught by one on I 49 a year or so ago.

I love mine too it you use the "professional mode" it shows you multiple signals for in case you drive past a cop thinking he's the only one tilt show a second third or even fourth signal so you know to slow your roll

1) Escort Redline- best range
2) Valentine One- More range than most need, and some are hooked on the arrows
3) Escort Passport Max- Updated version of the Passport 9500- has GPS so it won't go off from the constant falses like wal mart doors around town, but not as good of range as the other 2

we've purchased a couple of Rocky Mountains over the years based on their radio ad "we'll pay your ticket" and "makes you invisible to police". we have not received one ticket when using them. the signal goes off well in advance of the actual radar gun, plenty of time to squeeze in behind a rabbit and slow down. a couple of times we've had to mailed them in for repair (twice the power cord and once the sound component failed), and both time they've been repaired and mailed back to us with no issues. i highly recommend this company.

I don't care for GPS lock-out features, commonly found on Escort models. While it can make for a quieter drive, it can accidentally filter out real police radar.
Therefore, the old tried and true. Valentine One. Best laser detector of any out there (it can save you, providing it has clear line of sight and you have a "bogey" in front of you) and tremendous radar detection.
The arrows and bogey counter are worth it.

Are jammers illegal?
For radar, yes. Active jammers. That's why Rocky Mountain's jammers didn't work. They were passive.
For laser, not illegal, except in certain states. Falls under FDA guidelines, not FCC, so you can "jam" laser.

I think it is funny how many think the V One is the best. Based on all the recent tests, it is not. The segmented Escort Redline has the longest range and best off-axis range.
If you like the arrows, that's a good reason to buy it. However, based on the evidence, it does not have the best range. It has more than enough range, but not the best.

Succinct and accurate.

I've owned all three, V1, Escort Redline and Escort Passport Max. Based upon my experiences, I find the V1 as my go to and daily driver. Yes, it's "chattier" than most, but nothing the Auto Mute can't correct.
The arrows are fantastic. You'll always know where the source of radar is coming from. Can't get that from any other detector.

Fwiw, I don't use it in New Orleans because the cops never shoot radar here. I used it in BR all of the time. In fact, just caught LSP hitting people with instant-on the other day on the spillway. Slowed down and was good.
It is true that you have to learn how to listen to it though. Some random guy who gets one will be jamming on the brakes every two seconds, but I can discern what I need to slow down for.

They are pieces of shite and don't work for anything. Aren't even a good radar detector in the first place. They don't jam anything, it is all marketing. Don't even waste your time looking at them. Chalmette Shoes is either a rep, a salesman, or straight up working for RMR.

It means the cop has already clocked either you or a car very close to you.
It means you have been clocked. Laser is a beam that goes directly on target so you won't read it unless it hits you. Radar transmits in waves so you can pick that up

I have an Escort Passport 9500ix. I ordered it off amazon a couple days before I went to Dallas to pick up my Porsche. I've had it for a year and it has not failed me, and I speed like a mofo. All the time. Best money I ever spent.
ETA: It does have many features I don't even use, so a cheaper Escort might be more than adequate for most.

It does bounce off and you can pick it up sometimes. Obviously the gun isn't aimed correctly, but it does happen
