I would be shocked if 5 of 10 of those under 40 could pick Oswald out of a photo lineup.

using facial recognition alone, you're probably giving them even more credit than they deserve.

but just mention the name and they will (I'd hope) know who he was.
There are probably other ridiculously famous people that they'd know about but would disappointingly not know them by picture.

Wouldn't be shocked if fewer than 3 out of 10 could identify Neil Armstrong by pic.

John Goodman is my vote.

John Goodman is from Missouri. He's been living here since the 1980s, but he's not "out of New Orleans"...

Jean Lafitte & Louis Armstrong are my answers as well.

I’m surprised the crazy girl from Kenner hadn’t made an appearance in this thread yet though as a runner up:

Louis Armstrong. If you go off social media following it would be Lil Wayne and OBJ.

You laugh, but there was a stretch in the 80/90s where he likely was the most famous person from New Orleans. Whether you liked him and his workout videos or not seemingly everyone in the country knew who he was.

As for the modern day, I'd have to say that Manning holds the championship belt, at least amongst Americans. World wide it might be Lil Wayne since other countries don't care about football.

Historically, Louis Armstrong's peak was probably the highest.

The photograph of Lee Harvey Oswald is by far the most iconic photo of anyone from NO.

But I’m in the camp he doesn’t get to be from New Orleans just because he was born there. The city didn’t shape him in any way.

If you were to go to any city in Europe or Asia today with a picture of Peyton and one of Armstrong, I suspect a far higher % will know Manning.

Not a knock on Armstrong.

An airport bears his name. So Louie Armstrong is probably it.

But certainly Antoine “Fats” Domino is in the runoff.
