I fricking hate CarPlay. Makes my phone almost unusable while driving (which I get.. for safety reasons)
But no. I’ve had 2 cars with it and never use it. I do still connect it via Bluetooth which allows
Me to stream music/podcast and get phone calls

What does CarPlay have to do with talking with phone up at driver’s ear?

Love it! Haven’t had any suspension issues at all.

For the most part, all modern phones have hands free capability, regardless of the vehicle.
It's not that complicated though. I drive a 2006 and don't use the hands free driving capability of the phone. I put it on speaker and can have a conversation just fine with the phone in the center console. I choose not to text.
Wife's vehicle is a 2025 with all the bells and whistles, which I will use if driving her vehicle. I still choose not to text though, it's just never that important. Maybe if you're on the road continuously as part of work, texting would be more necessary, but that's not the case for most people.

I use it every day and I don't know how we ever got along without it. I am 59 years old by the way. The only problem I have with Apple CarPlay is it is so useful and seamless that I am constantly leaving my damned phone in the car when I get to work or get home from work LOL. I forget I have a phone.
I use it for navigation, listening to pod casts and music and making calls. I also use it for texting while driving....voice texting. It is about the most useful tech I have used in years and years.

I love Apple CarPlay, but sometimes the Bluetooth is kind of neurotic in my F-150; the screen displays, but nothing plays. Frustrating.

They make cheap $30-40 adapters you can use for this. No need to replace the entire head unit.

Big fan of car play, but oddly, I still control most things with my phone rather than fiddling with the touch screen.

Me, because I use Android Auto.

So, you take your eyes off the road to mess with your phone with a 4" screen instead of using the 9" screen a shorter visual distance from the road with nearly the exact same interface... Oh, my bad, FanDuel doesn't have a car play app, so you gotta get those bets placed in a timely manner, amirite?

I don’t think adjusting music or directions or something is any more distracting on my phone than with using the built in screen.
I control it by the phone, then directions and map show up on the built in screen.
(You must have me mixed up with someone else on the fanduel swipe)

I’m 63 and love Apple CarPlay. I use it all the time to listen to podcasts while driving to work, sending texts by voice or talking on the phone hands free.

I plug my phone in when going to the grocery store 2 miles away

Visual distance and focus. Your eyes switch between far (road) to medium (car screen), and close, phone screen. Your eyes move from looking directly ahead (0), car screen (-20 degrees), and phone screen (-50 degrees.) All of those transitions take milliseconds, with the more movement your eyes need to do, and refocus requiring more time to readjust. Add in that the icons on the phone are smaller than those on your dash, acquisition time to register what icon is where also takes tiny slices more time than looking at bigger icons.
Fanduel was representative of IG, FB, or whatever other bullshite that people use on their phones while driving that they can't through Carplay or Android Auto on the dash.

Some cars have a very good projection UI on their own. Like Tesla for example.
But yeah....I use Carplay. I waited to buy a 4Runner until they had Carplay, which wasn't until 2021. The 200 Series Land Cruiser never got it.
