I didn't follow things as closely after Katrina, but was under the impression it never even reached the level of what was seen in Shreveport 20 years ago. That was when LA kids with gang affiliations were sent to Shreveport to live with relatives in order to get away from the LA crime scene.

The majority black people in California have roots in Louisiana and Texas. So way more than 3.....

The Landrieu's.
The only correct answer in this thread.
Nola will never make headway on its crime problem until Mitch is gone and there is no Landrieu in a position of power in this city.

I think gang culture, as a whole, has changed. It use to be all about the gang, ride or die for each other, everything is done for the good of the gang. There are smaller "sets" (not just in New Orleans, I am talking about in general) because there started to be too many people in it for self interest so things break off.

Between the 1890s and 1910, large groups of Black Americans migrated to Los Angeles from Texas, Shreveport, New Orleans and Atlanta to escape the racial violence and bigotry of the South with hopes for better access to wealth. Job opportunities were plentiful, including hauling lumber, digging ditches, cleaning toilets, laying brick, scrubbing laundry and shining shoes. Black migrants quickly laid claim to Central Avenue between 8th and 20th Streets in Downtown Los Angeles, and the area became known as "Brick Block" - with clubs, churches black-owned businesses and newspapers like the California Eagle supplying community needs.

That's like me saying I have roots in Mexico City because my great grand essay lived there
